Interview Series - Career Experts - Dorothy Dalton from 3Plus Internationalâ€" CareerMetis.com In this interview series, we caught up with Dorothy Dalton from 3Plus Internationalwho shares her expertise and insights about job search, career change, etc. in today’s marketplace.Tell us a little bit about your companyeval3Plus focuses on building and strengthening a gender balanced and diverse talent pipeline for business success and to allow individuals tor reach their potential.How did you get started in this path?I started when I realized my daughter was facing the same issues in the workplace as I had done 30 years earlier.Is this something you decided early on in your career?I have always supported gender equality but I hadn’t thought about making it a professional activity until I saw that the needle wasn’t moving and I could do something about it.What is the Best Career Advice You’ve ever received?I have never received any career advice which has been any good!evalWhat is the most exciting part of working in thisindustry?It’s exciting and rewarding to see people achieve their personal goals. It’s even better when organisations make long over due changes to make their workplaces and practices more inclusive.How do to stay abreast of the industry as an expert?Read, watch podcasts and interact with others.It’s really important to have a wide and diverse network. The workplace, hiring methodologies and job search practices are changing at an incredible rate. Staying up to date is a major challenge.What are some of the things that you see job seekers struggle with the most?They don’t do their inner work and have little self-awareness.What are the common mistakes that you see them do?“Spray and pray”.Many job seekers send out the same CV to huge numbers of job postings and wonder why they don’t get any responses.How should job seekers approach job search today?Strategically and methodically.Job search is an art and a science. The art is to tell a compelling story and the science is to make sure it’s visible and searchable.What is th e biggest trend(s) you see that job seekers will face in the next 2-3 years?AI probably and the impact that will have on processes.Many feel frustrated that they never get to see a person and I suspect that will increase.What is one advice you would give someone just out of college today?Create a good LinkedIn profile.What is one advice you would give someone who is switching careers?Build a strong and diverse network in the target area. “Relationship Capital” is important especially for senior roles.How should job seekers get the most out of LinkedIn?Have a complete LinkedIn profile, with a good network and engage appropriately.Unemployment is at the lowest levels, why do you think that is?I’m not sure that it is. The numbers I think may be skewed.An increasing percentage of workers are gig workers (4.7m in the UK, the figures are just out) Someone will show as employed if they have worked only 1 day in two weeks â€" in the UK at least.What is the biggest trend(s) you see tha t hiring managers will face in the next 2-3 years?Having to adapt their processes to manage unconscious bias.This is an uphill task and many hiring managers, recruiters and HR professionals have blind spots and still use systems riddled with bias.Dorothy, what are you currently working on?I am currently writing a handbook and guide on every day sexism for the European Institute for Gender Equality which will be circulated to 27 member states and maybe translated into 27 languages!Pretty cool!What are the best resources you recommend to job seekers?They should definitely check out the 3Plus eGazine for tips on job search and career transition and also my personal website .Follow the right people on Twitter and LinkedIn â€" there are some amazing free resources which are packed with helpful information for every demographic. I say the right people because there are sadly a lot of quacks dispensing unhelpful and inaccurate advice.Job search is like life and parenting â€" everyone has a view!If in doubt or someone is really stuck, invest in professional support.
